Senior Manager, Technical Services


Coutts Information Services, a division of Ingram Library Services, is a full-service supplier of books and electronic content, primarily focused on academic libraries. We partner with publishers, small presses, institutions, and associations to find everything you need. OASIS™ (Online Acquisition and Selection Information Services) is the user interface to Coutts' bibliographic database of five million records and the gateway to our suite of services for librarians, including customized approval orders, new title notification plans, and sourcing out-of-print books.

Coutts is seeking a team oriented, flexible, and service-oriented individual for the position of Senior Manager, Technical Services for our Niagara Falls, Ontario location. The successful candidate will be a self starter with the ability to work as part of a dynamic team. Applicants should be detail oriented while possessing strong oral, written and interpersonal skills.

Overview of Responsibilities

The Senior Manager, Technical Services will be an integral part of the Coutts Senior Management team. In conjunction with the Director, Technical Services – Global, the Manager will participate in the development of strategic plans as well as the identification and implementation of annual projects and budgets in direct alignment with the strategic plan. They will partner with Sales, Customer Service and other customer-facing units to ensure that key customer deliverables are met. In addition to managing a team of both professionals and paraprofessionals the incumbent’s responsibilities will include: Developing and maintaining Technical Services project plans for new and existing customers; Interpreting, translating, and integrating customer cataloging and processing workflow requirements into Coutts Information Services workflow and processes; maintaining a collaborative and cohesive team environment; representing the company at major sales and RFP/RFI presentations; representing the Company at book industry events and participating in book industry committees.

As this workplace is a unionized environment, this position will deal with employee relations issues based on a sound understanding of the collective agreement and good management practice in collaboration with the Human Resources department.

Qualifications

  • Master of Library and Information Science Degree
  • 7 - 10 years experience in a management level role related to Library/Technical Services
  • 5 years experience working in or with major public libraries or academic libraries
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent presentation and negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of MARC, LC, Dewey, NLC, NLM, Moys and AACR2 classification schemes
  • Knowledge of LC Subject Headings and OCLC WorldCat Services
  • Knowledge of LC, CSH, MESH and Sears subject analysis formats
  • Personal computing skills including MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Access and Project) and Z39.50 client
  • Proven knowledge of library automation systems, bibliographic utilities, and CD-ROM technologies
