The Most Comprehensive Selection Support Service For Libraries

is the most comprehensive selection support service available bringing together information on North American, UK and European publications in one database and uses unique methodology and systems to help libraries manage their purchasing and selection.

The library has the option of either Coutts selecting the books through an approval plan and/or obtaining new title information from detailed library profiles, delivered electronically or on slips in any area of interest. The web interface is intuitive in its navigation and unique in its methodology, enabling the user to move around the database at ease without losing the route to information. Both the output and maintenance files can be viewed on the web. The selection process is the most comprehensive available in terms of range and depth, with publication information from the US, UK, Europe and Canada expanding our database to over 3 million titles.

Bookstream is the Coutts book approval service, using the latest sophisticated, automated techniques for pre-selection, with final selection always book-in-hand. Where supplementary titles are slightly out of scope for example - price limit is exceeded, a slip can be slip sent. Last year Coutts treated 58,500 titles, more than any other vendor. Coutts can provide either comprehensive or core collections as well as university press plans. The collections can be tailored to the library's specific requirements whether based on LC or Dewey classification, publisher or non-subject parameters.

With Bookstream you have the ability to:
Review your approvals profile
Determine what books have been selected for your library
Identify books under consideration for your library
Place an approval claim or exclude a title from approval
Produce library specific management reports

Slipstream enables the library to set up detailed new title profiles using Library of Congress or Dewey classification, together with non-subject parameters and publisher lists. Output is available on-line through slipstream or sent as paper slips.
As part of Slipstream, Coutts is also introducing a pre-publication slip program that will provide information from Coutts' provisional catalog records and database sources from around the world, together with anticipated publication date.

With Slipstream you will be able to:
Review, modify or set up new title profiles
Review pre-publication and new title information
Manage new title information including forwarding information to other users from within the system or by e-mail
Downloading new title information to your local ILS system
Create individual lists of titles which you can self manage or share with colleagues
Create a shopping basket, with order processing under the libraries control
Create a Marc download of lists or shopping basket into your ILS

The iapprove system provides access at various levels allowing individual librarians or faculty to view, make recommendations, create lists and forward information, whilst giving the acquisitions department control of acquisitions processes such as the placing of orders.

The comprehensive nature of iapprove enables the library to use Coutts as its primary selection tool, reducing the need to access duplicate data sources. Furthermore, the combination of the broadest coverage and the lowest returns rate in the industry allied with the intuitive web interface, make iapprove the best service of its type.
